Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and has a mild climate all year round. In a few hours you go from the beaches of the south to the Anaga forests and the moon-like landscape of Mount Teide, Spain’s highest volcano.
Not to be missed
- Teide National Park, a UNESCO site, with its cable car and trails across the lava flows
- The Los Gigantes cliffs, best seen from the sea
- The trails in the laurel forest of Anaga Rural Park
- Dolphins and pilot whales off the south-west coast
- The village of Masca and the Teno valley
Practical tips
- It is cold on Teide even in summer: bring a jacket and enough water.
- Walking to the summit of Teide needs a park permit, requested in advance.
- To see whales and dolphins choose licensed boats that keep their distance.
When to go
Good all year: the south is sunnier, the north greener. In winter there can be snow on Teide.
