What to see and do in Sorrento

The places not to miss, practical tips and the tickets to visit them.

Sorrento at a glance

Sorrento is a small town overlooking the Gulf of Naples, with lemon groves, limoncello and a small harbour full of restaurants. It is the handiest starting point for Capri, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast.

Practical tips

  • Ferries to Capri and the Coast leave from the port: check times and book in high season.
  • Buy limoncello in the shops that make it, not only in tourist windows.
  • The roads are narrow: for Amalfi and Positano the sea is often easier than the bus.

When to go

From May to September for the sea and boat trips; April and October are quieter and cheaper.
