Noto is the capital of Sicilian baroque, rebuilt after the earthquake of 1693 in honey-coloured stone. It is one of the late-baroque towns of the Val di Noto, a UNESCO site, with refined cuisine and a nature reserve nearby.
Practical tips
- In May the Infiorata takes place, with carpets of flowers on Via Nicolaci.
- The centre is small and done on foot: the light of sunset turns the stone golden.
- Try almond granita and cannoli in the historic pastry shops.
When to go
Spring for the Infiorata; autumn for the mild weather; in summer it is very hot.
