Lanzarote is an island of volcanoes, black vineyards and white houses, and a UNESCO biosphere reserve. The artist César Manrique left works that blend into the lava, and the sea offers coves, surf and boat trips.
Not to be missed
- Timanfaya National Park and its Fire Mountains
- The vineyards of La Geria, grown in pits of volcanic ash
- César Manrique’s works, such as Jameos del Agua
- The Papagayo beaches in the south
- The nearby island of La Graciosa, reached by boat
Practical tips
- Timanfaya is visited on the park’s routes and buses: you cannot walk freely among the craters.
- At Famara wind and waves are strong: swim only with surf schools or where it is safe.
- Taste the Malvasía of La Geria in the wineries themselves.
When to go
Dry, mild weather all year; in summer the trade winds blow, perfect for surf and kite.
