Alghero is the “little Barcelona” of Sardinia, with a Catalan old town inside bastions on the sea. From here you visit the Neptune Caves, Capo Caccia and the beaches of the north-west.
Practical tips
- For the Neptune Caves go by boat from Alghero or on foot by the stairway: choose with a calm sea.
- Try the catalana, a dish of crustaceans with onion, and Vermentino wine.
- Sunset on the walls is one of the loveliest moments of the day.
When to go
From May to October; in June and September the sea is warm and there are fewer crowds.
